


Master Sergeant Stephen Walter USMC Reserve
MSgt Stephen Walter, USMC Reserve, served for 21 years in various billets in the Marine Corps Reserve establishment, including 14 years with the Military Police Company in Dayton, and 5 years with L/3/25 (infantry) in Columbus.
Walter was mobilized for active duty four times after 9/11, serving in the 4th Marine Expeditionary Brigade (Anti-Terrorism) at Camp LeJeune, North Carolina, for fifteen months, and most recently with L/3/25 for 14 months. Walter's duties with Lima Company included Public Affairs, and serving as a Casualty Assistance Call Officer to deliver messages of death to the families of Marines killed in action.
MSgt Walter began his military service with the U.S. Air Force in July 1964. His duty stations included California, and Binh Thuy AB, Mekong Delta, Republic of Vietnam, 1967-1968. This time period included the Tet Offensive. He was nominated for a Bronze Star for his duty performance during that trying time.
MSgt Walter has completed nearly 36 years of service with the Columbus Police Department. He has served as a Sgt in patrol for all but one of the last 30 years, working off shifts in high-crime neighborhoods.
He earned a master's degree from Central Michigan University, and has been married to his wife, Monica, for 31 years.
