General Richard C. Alexander Executive Director of National Guard Association of the United States

Major General Richard C. Alexander, the former adjutant general of Ohio , is the Executive Director of National Guard Association of the United States . Before taking the position, he served as the NGAUS's 45 th president from September 1996 to September 1998.

The general has more than four decades in uniform, beginning with an enlistment in the United States Marine Corps in 1954. He was commissioned a second lieutenant upon completing the Ohio National Guard Officer Candidate School in 1965. Alexander was promoted and recognized as a major general on October 6, 1992 .

Alexander was appointed adjutant general of Ohio in December 1987. A member of the Governor's cabinet, he was responsible for the Adjutant General's Department and the preparedness of the more than 18,000 persons assigned to Ohio 's Army and Air National Guard, the Ohio Military Reserve and the Ohio Naval Militia.

Alexander, a graduate of the Army War College , holds a bachelors degree from Franklin University and has received many military decorations. He is also a graduate of the Army Command and General Staff Studies Course.
