Dr. Fredrick R. Burton Elementary Principal, Upper Arlington Schools

Fredrick R. Burton is currently principal of Wickliffe Informal Alternative Elementary School in Upper Arlington, Ohio. He has more than 25 years of experience in the public schools and has been a continual advocate for progressive education.

Burton is the author of numerous articles on children's learning and leadership and has also taught graduate courses on elementary leadership at The Ohio State University. Additionally, his leadership style has been the subject of a doctoral dissertation and his approach to leadership has been featured in several professional publications.

He was one of five Ohio principals selected to participate in the Reggio Schools Institute in Reggio Emelia, Italy; is the recipient of an Ohio Best Practice Award; and was selected as a Mentor Principal, one of twenty-five Ohio principals chosen to lead and mentor new principals in the Ohio Principal Academy.

Burton received his bachelor's and master's degrees from The Ohio State University (OSU). Additionally, from OSU, he received a doctorate in children's literature and reading and has also attended Harvard University's Principal Center Institute.
