Robert L. Bailey is the retired Chairman, CEO and President of the State Auto Insurance Companies. Since his retirement he devotes most of his time to writing and public speaking on the topics of leadership, selling value, and developing business strategies for the future.
Under Bailey's leadership of State Auto, several companies were added to the State Auto Group and service levels were improved dramatically. He was also instrumental in taking the Company public in 1991 with the formation of State Auto Financial Corporation. During Bailey's tenure at State Auto, sales rose from $214 million to more than $1 billion, net worth increased from $139 million to nearly $1 billion and State Auto became one of the top performing property/casualty insurance organizations in the United States .
Bailey is a graduate of Pittsburg ( Kansas ) State University , following two years at Fort Scott ( Kansas ) Community College (FSCC). In 2001 FSCC named him its outstanding alumnus. In 2000 the Professional Insurance Agents Association named him the Insurance Industry Person of the Year. Bailey is the author of the book, "PLAIN TALK ABOUT LEADERSHIP; Silver Bullets for Success" and a current and former member of numerous boards and organizations, including Franklin University.
