Your Coach Is Waiting

Posted on February 21st, 2012

Everyone could use a coach. Some have more than one person who coaches them. Others call their coaches mentors (there is a difference, but it is not worth discussing at this time).

Why are people willing to coach others? Because they feel they can help make a difference. They believe it is worth their effort, and it is rewarding. Often, they are driven to coaching because others have been willing to coach them. What does it take to get them to be your coach? Start by asking them. You might be (pleasantly) surprised by their answer.

Sure there are coaches who are paid (and many are paid very well), but there are many, many more who are willing to give their time without expecting anything more in return than a lunch, breakfast, a cup of coffee, or just (and more importantly) a thank you.

The difference between a paid and unpaid coach is the paid coach schedules time with you (that’s how they get paid). An unpaid coach is waiting for you to call to schedule the time.
