measure - assess - practice
What Makes Us Unique? While many offer leadership development programs, only a few are willing and able to measure their effectiveness. Likewise, most do not provide opportunities to assess an individual participant’s learning. And only our Institutes (up till now) reinforce an individual’s leadership development through specifically designed exercises and activities that support our leadership practice principles, concepts, and ideas.
- Measure In partnership with Sequent, we created the Higher Levels of Leadership Indicator (HLLI) to measure the higher level leadership themes from the book, The Conflicted Leader and Vantage Leadership, written by General Gray, the 29th Commandant of the Marine Corps, and Paul Otte, President Emeritus, Franklin University (published by the Franklin University Press in 2006). Our participants take the HLLI as both a pre-test and a post-test and we have observed significant increase in scores, a strong indicator of the effectiveness of our Leadership Institutes.
- Assess Leadership Institute participants begin by creating their own definition of leadership. Then through the Institute modules, exercises, and activities, along with their listening to (and practicing based on) recorded presentations from our Hall Leadership Lessons and Mason Leadership Symposium, they develop and present their own leadership philosophy. Many of our participating organizations have found these presentations to be an effective way to assess an individual’s leadership development.
- Practice Based on an in-depth review of current thinking in the field of practice (as compared to talent), we have created our own leadership practice principles; continually stretching, consciously thinking, doing openly, and developing others. These concepts are further supported by concepts and ideas that are presented, explained in detail, and applied in exercises and activities in our Leadership Institutes. By practicing their leadership during and after the Institute, we have seen how our participants greatly increase their leadership development. Click here to download a Practice Woksheet.
